The Maile lei, an indigenous green leaf vine that is found in wet forests throughout the Hawaiian islands are intertwined together beautifully to mark the 'piko', or genesis of our restaurant.  The vine emits a heady cloud of earthy anise fragrance signifying "life and growth". This, combined with words of prayer was the blessing bestowed upon us by Kupuna – Daniel “Kaniela” Akaka, Jr.

Chef Bonita Lao - "The Maile lei always reminds me of so many special occasions; graduations, proms, weddings. Today, this Maile lei is the "piko" (or umbilical chord) of our restaurant. Untying the Maile, a Hawaiian version of a red ribbon ceremony, commemorates the umbilical cord of our new baby, Laulima!"
